Hi ladies! I decided to touch back on this topic again because I understand that as a woman, it can be hard trying to be pure in a world that is starting to become the complete opposite; which is why I have come up with a few ways to help fight lust and sexual desires. I did a previous post touching up on lust and pornography, if you haven't already, check it out and share. If you have any others ways, don't be selfish I'd love to hear them!
Get rooted in God's Word
"How can a young person stay on the path of purity? By living according to your word." ~Psalms 119:9
God's word challenges you to be pure in an impure world. God's word guides, leads, and gives you courage to face adversities, physical and spiritual. The more you spend time in the Word of God, the less likely you are to entertain lustful thoughts. God's word satisfies you more than enough a moment of lust ever can.
Join a small girls purity group
In my previous post, I talked about the importance of accountability. A small girls group especially one based on purity, is a great way to get help in stopping lustful desires. There you will have accountability, leaders to help pray with and for you, try new exciting things with your group, and you have a great opportunity to listen to someone who is struggling with something in their life and pray and be accountable to them too. I get that some refuse this option because they're scared to be vulnerable but don't be. Know that vulnerability gives access to true accountability and healing.
Clean under your bed
Think of the process of cleaning your room. You make your bed, you organize your shoes, purses, you organize your desk, clean the floor, and etc. But how many times have you cleaned your room but not under the bed? Later to find out that you have so much things under the bed you never realized could be under there!
If you don't sweep or vacuum under your bed, no matter how clean your room may look, it is still dirty. Just like our closet (our hearts), we can do as much as we can to make it look nice and seem clean but if we don't take care of the things we'd rather not touch, it'll take root and cause more build up to the chance where you'll have no choice but to clean under the bed. Look deep within your heart and seek God to help reveal the things that push you to sin rather than Him.
Guard your heart
As women of God, we have to learn to be sensitive to the Holy Spirit that is alive living inside of us. Because aware of this or not, the things we see as harmless could be planting seeds of lust in our hearts. Be mindful with what you're putting in your heart, which is why God clearly instructs us to guard our hearts, "Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it." ~Proverbs 4:23.
Think of lust as a virus. Like a computer, the moment a virus comes in, the computer is contaminated. It's the same logic for our hearts. The moment lust enters, our hearts are contaminated and the longer the delay for treatment, the harder it'll be to break free and heal from the bondage. Let's learn to be good stewards of our hearts, learning to not mix great treasures with junk. Your heart and course of your life will do you a favor.
Distract yourself
Don't you hate when someone comes to your home uninvited? Yeah, that's lust for you. Lust will come whenever it pleases, but we don't have to submit to our sexual desires. When those lustful thoughts manage to get in your head, honey, distract yourself. Get the weapon - the Word of God, and meditate on that scripture. Turn on worship music, watch a sermon or funny videos. Finally finish that book you've been meaning to read or do something simple such as watch a movie or your favorite tv show. God has given you many ways to get out of temptation, be aware and take advantage of them.
"Flee the evil desires of youth and pursue righteousness, faith, love and peace, along with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart." ~ Timothy 2:22
Learn to train your body and mind to stop obeying your flesh. Understanding that in order to pursue something, you have to leave something behind. Intentionally pursuing something in mind while walking with heavy weight will eventually slow you down, making you too tired, no longer wanting to finish the race. God has called you to live a righteous life but there will be things that will try to distract you and steer you off course. Stay rooted, practice self discipline, and throw off anything that hinders you from moving forward in the plans God has set before you (Hebrews 12:1-3).
Stand strong girls.
With love, V.
