The Secret of Contentment

I read this quote in a devotional and it touched my heart. Just to think, a God that could have anything that He wants in this whole earth, yet He wants us. And here we are searching for something else to take His place. Kind of makes you feel guilty right?


I'm pretty sure at times, you've felt like you don't have enough or don't feel like you're enough. The stares you give when a couple walks by, kills you inside. Or your friends are in a relationship and flaunting it off on social media and you're wishing, "They're so lucky" "I wish I had something like that" We've all felt that way before. What human being hasn't? There's nothing wrong with feeling this way, but make sure those feelings don't lead you to something God never intended for you to have.


God gives us the need to be loved, the need for security, the need to be wanted; but He gives us those needs so that He can meet them. If we constantly look from person to person to meet those needs, we will never be satisfied. After looking for something, you would eventually get overwhelmed and tired, only to find that what you're looking for is right in front of you. And that, is God.


You see God is a jealous God. He longs to be with you. He longs to be a part of your life. Before God can give you that special person that He has for you, He wants to spend time with you. He wants to let you know that He cares for you, even when nobody else seems to. He wants to give you everlasting, satisfying love so that when that God sent person comes into your life, you won't have to depend on that person's love for worth.


What's been on my mind is that it saddens me to see girls brokenhearted after a breakup, or other people jump from relationship to relationship thinking that a relationship, sex, and etc will make them happy. Truth is, it's only temporary and all it does is leave an empty void in the heart that God is pursuing to fill, making them more unhappy and worse: heartless.

Trying to be happy where you are now is hard especially when people around you are either getting married, getting into a relationship, have things that you don't have, etc but if we shift our focus on something GREATER, we won't have time to feel sorry for ourselves.


"I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want." ~ Philippians 4:12


Take this time of singleness as an advantage to seek God. Take your time of singleness as a marriage with God - to become a bride for Him, getting to know Him deeply, falling more in love with Him. By spending time with Him, you will be filled with true satisfaction and your desires begin to change. Learn to be content in Him with the fact that His love is enough. No matter what circumstance (lonely or not), He is enough.


Focus on what you have rather than on what you don't have. Focus on the now and not on the what isn't. Know that God has a divine plan for you and He plans to fulfill them through you. Trust in Him that He will provide all that you need.

I used to think that being in a relationship meant everything. If I wasn't in a relationship, I was worth nothing. I felt like I needed someone to love me to make me feel loved, beautiful, and the list goes on. But over the years I began to see that there is so much more to life than just that. You are more than just being a significant other to someone. You are called as a daughter/son of the King. You don't need someone to be loved when you are already loved by the One who knows and created You.


Dear Father,


we thank you for Your love, the love that changes things. We love You because You loved us first. I pray that everyone that reads this is reminded that only true satisfaction and love comes from You and not of people or things of this world. I pray that You open our hearts towards You and the plans that You have for us. Help us to let go of things that hinder us from the love You are so willing to give to us. May we accept Your love so we can spread it to others as well. Help us to learn to be content in You knowing that You are enough for our hearts. Amen.
